The Hunter and the Hunted

I think spiders are amazing creatures, using homespun silk to trap the insects looking to feast on my garden. As much as I love these hunters I also have an irrational fear reaction to them at a subconscious level. As ridiculous as it sounds, I lost count of how many times shivers ran up and down my spine as I was searching for the images for this post.

Spinning ’round your silky trap

The winged huntress waits

Haiku – Winter Storm

The inspiration for this haiku bloomed in the aftermath of a family ice skating excursion. It was hot cocoa all ’round and my little one was captivated by the giant snowflakes falling on the icy cold side of our bay window, complete with heart drawings in the steamy cocoa fog.

Winter white blanket
of softly fallen snow through
cocoa steamed hearts

Muse

You give wings to
Flightless birds,
Breathing life into
these very words.

Through each line
To love or long,
You play the melody
That writes the song.

Like a ballerina
Set upon the stage,
Gracefully you dance
Across every page.

You are my muse.

Happy New Year 2022

May 2022 be your year, full of hope, happiness and health.
Happy New Year!

Twenty twenty-one
A final turn to perpend
all that came to pass

A new beginning
Full of possibilities
Twenty twenty-two

Christmas Magic

Christmas Eve
Children gathered by the tree
Light dancing across
A thousand strands of silver tinsel
Swaying with the slightest breeze.

If you squint just right
Every point bursts into
A universe of colour
Like stars in the heavens
Bringing Christmas magic to life.

Survival

The r-r-roar of the engines
Fierce at the starting line
Mostly fade as they make the turn
Each posturing for position
Before vanishing onto
The long stretch of roads
Winding beneath the evergreen forest
Where bones are buried and
Ghosts hide in the shadows
Even as infinite sorrow threatens
To swallow everything it touches
Where weaker souls crumple
Under the pressure of
A thousand mountain ranges
Laid upon their backs
The survivors will emerge
From the deepest ocean and
Erupt through the finish singing
Glorious tales of collective victory
When even one returns
Those lost will not be forgotten

For us left behind
We struggle to comprehend
The turmoil that raged within
We look to those who survive
Seeking solace in the burden of
Those who did not return

With golden sunset afterglow
As the night creeps in
