A New Pair of Kicks
It’s said that shoes can change your outlook on life. Take a bad day and make it good. This week Jim at A Unique Title for Me has ask that we find songs that are about or mentions Socks, Shoes, Boots and/or Feet for Song Lyric Sunday.
This week I am highlighting a track by Scottish singer, songwriter and musician Paolo Giovanni Nutini. Nutini who hails from Paisley is Scotland released his debut album “These Streets” in 2006 where it peaked at #3 in the UK. The fourth single “New Shoes” reached #21 in the UK and #1 on the Adult Alternative Airplay chart in the USA.
The song is about a guy who wakes up tired and not feeling well. When he gets dressed he is set to top off his ensemble with a old worn pair of shoes. He decides the old shoes don’t suit him. Instead slips into a new pair of ‘kicks’ and the world instantly changes for the better.
I hope you enjoy listening to the track I’ve chosen this week. Nutini has a powerful voice that is highlighted thoughouot the track and his body of work. I have included links to other tracks by Nutini that really highlight his unique voice and musical style.
New Shoes Lyrics

woke up cold one Tuesday I'm looking tired and feeling quite sick I felt like there was something missing in my day to day life so I quickly opened the wardrobe pulled out some jeans and a t-shirt that seemed clean topped it off with a pair of old shoes that were ripped around the seams and I thought 'these shoes just don't suit me' hey, I put some new shoes on and suddenly everything is right I said, hey, I put some new shoes on and everybody's smiling, it's so inviting oh, short on money but long on time slowly strolling in the sweet sunshine and I'm running late and I don't need an excuse 'cause I'm wearing my brand new shoes woke up late one Thursday and I'm seeing stars as I'm rubbing my eyes and I felt like there were two days missing as I focused on the time and I made my way to the kitchen but I had to stop from the shock of what I found a room full of all of my friends all dancing round and round and I thought 'hello new shoes bye bye them blues' hey, I put some new shoes on and suddenly everything is right I said, hey, I put some new shoes on and everybody's smiling, it's so inviting oh, short on money but long on time slowly strolling in the sweet sunshine and I'm running late and I don't need an excuse 'cause I'm wearing my brand new shoes take me wandering through these streets where bright lights and angels meet stone to stone they take me on I'm walking to the break of dawn take me wandering through these streets where bright lights and angels meet stone to stone they take me on I'm walking to the break of dawn hey, I put some new shoes on and suddenly everything is right I said, hey I put some new shoes on and everybody's smiling, it's so inviting oh, short on money but long on time slowly strolling in the sweet sunshine and I'm running late and I don't need an excuse 'cause I'm wearing my brand new shoes hey, I put some new shoes on and suddenly everything is right I said, hey I put some new shoes on and everybody's smiling, it's so inviting oh, short on money but long on time slowly strolling in the sweet sunshine and I'm running late and I don't need an excuse 'cause I'm wearing my brand new shoes Songwriters: Paolo Nutini / Matty Benbrook / Jim Duguid

I’ve never heard of him before but I liked the song. Bouncy with a catchy chorus that makes one want to sing along. I also like the clips of his other songs, especially the two from Caustic Love. It’s interesting because we have a Paisley here (Paisley Park) and an Edinburgh (Edinburgh gold course). I wonder what else we share in common with Scotland?
