Shameful Desires
There are times in our lives we do shameful things for which we feel no remorse. Slinking around in the shadows seeking instant gratification without caring who our actions hurt or the consequences that follow.
This week Jim at A Unique Title for Me asks us to explore the primary emotions of Disgust, Embarrassment, Guilt, Regret, Remorse, and Shame for this week’s Song Lyric Sunday. The song I have chosen is much more literal than last week’s entry and deals with shame or lack thereof for our actions.
Tanner Elle Schneider, known by her stage name, Elle King is an American singer-songwriter born in Los Angeles, California to Saturday Night Live alum Rob Schneider and London King. Her parents would divorce and her mother would remarry and move King to Ohio. King’s stepfather introduced her to various female artists when she was young setting the wheels in motion. King would immerse herself in music from the age of 13 learning how to play guitar and other instruments. She would also appear in her father’s film Deuce Bigalow, American Gigolo.
King scored her first top ten hit in 2014 with her highly successful ‘Ex’s and Oh’s‘, the lead single from her 2015 album ‘Love Stuff‘. Today’s track, ‘Shame‘ was the lead single from her 2018 sophomore effort ‘Shake the Spirit‘, reaching number 22 on the US Rock charts. The song which King co-wrote is written from the point of view of a shameless mistress. I hope you enjoy the track I’ve chosen this week.
Shame Lyrics

Oh, you feel it creep, creeping at the tempo Don't you need it pump, pumping 'til it crumble Trouble, trouble's what you need (what you need) That's what you get in getting me (what you need) From the bottom of your soul Shame, shame, shame, shame Mama doesn't know, ooh Every night you go to Shame, shame, shame, shame There a woman wants to roll, ooh I can make you shake Rattle your bones I'm a fire, just to spark under your halo Rolling thunder, I'm high up, ain't got no shame, no Trouble; hey, what you calling me? (calling me) Uh, come get some of what you need (what you need) From the bottom of your soul Shame, shame, shame, shame Mama doesn't know, ooh Every night you go to Shame, shame, shame, shame There a woman wants to roll, ooh I can make you shake Rattle your bones You can live forever, babe Walk with me in shadows I can make you better, babe Come pray with me, get safe with me Shame, shame, shame, shame Mama doesn't know, ooh Every night you go to Shame, shame, shame, shame There a woman wants to roll, ooh I can make you shake Shame, shame, shame, shame Mama doesn't know, ooh Every night you go to Shame, shame, shame, shame There a woman wants to roll, ooh I can make you shake Rattle your bones Songwriters: Timothy Pagnotta, Tanner Schneider

I hadn’t heard this song, either, nor did I know her parentage. All very interesting.

I didn’t know that she was Rob Schneider’s daughter. Good song choice.
